January Round Up.

1 February 2010

The snow lasted well into the middle of January which was fantastic for the horses, we have been able to keep more turned out and they have loved it. I took hundreds of photos including this one showing how well insulated Treacle the mule is.

We were thrilled when it placed third in the Scotsman newspaper's "Freeze Frame" winter photography competition.

With the following comment from the picture editor - "The picture of the Mule is just good clean fun, it reminds me of a saucy seaside postcard, if it wasn't for the snow! But, it is also a very well taken picture and worthy of a place in the top three."

We may be a polo pony stud and breeders of appaloosas but Treacle the mule is a large character on the farm!

We were pleased that despite the snow Chamfron Soutra Brae got away to her new home with Claire and Doads McDiarmid in Perthshire. She has already settled in well with Claire's other spotty horses and will be shown.

Well we all know that nature abhors a vacuum so we now have a new broodmare to fill Su's space! St Helen's Regency Bubbles has joined us after a very successful private driving career, with wins at The Royal, The Royal Highland and The Great Yorkshire. Her full sister won the private driving at the Royal Highland 2008, Burleigh 2009 and was then 4th in the Harness champion of the year at HOYS.
